IDEOLOGICAL & STRATEGIC LINKS B/W TTP AND AFGHAN TALIBAN

Abstract

This research paper examines the strategic and operational cooperation between the Afghan Taliban and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), examining how their alliance strengthens both organisations' operational capacities and resilience along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The study examines important aspects of this alliance, including cross-border sanctuaries, coordinated tactics, resource sharing, intelligence exchange and cooperative recruitment networks, using a qualitative methodology based on secondary sources, including policy papers, academic research, and reports. Although the TTP aims to build an Islamic emirate in Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban primarily intends to establish control within Afghanistan, their shared ideological framework and regional goals support a strong cooperation relationship.

The Afghan Taliban gains from the TTP's operational infrastructure in Pakistan, while the TTP use Afghan safe havens because of this relationship. The ensuing interdependence makes counterinsurgency operations more difficult, increases difficulties for Pakistani security forces, and maintains a transnational insurgent network, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The results highlight a crucial aspect of South Asia's security environment and emphasise the necessity of concerted regional actions to undermine this alliance.
