FEMINIST LINGUISTIC PRACTICES IN THE AGE OF AI: DIGITAL STRATEGIES OF LANGUAGE RESISTANCE AND EMPOWERMENT AMONG PAKISTANI WOMEN ACTIVISTS

Abstract

In this study, the researcher is interested in the representation of the operations of the media and the political power in Kashif Nisar's Pakistani Television Drama (TVD) Breaking News, by applying linguistics semiotic approach. The research follows the three-part analytical tool of Roland Barthes (1972) namely denotation, connotation and myth as the only tool to analyze and deconstruct the dominant ideological narratives via verbal, visual and multimodal resources in the Pakistani context. The study uses purposive sampling of scenes and qualitative interpretive analysis of the texts to analyze the key denotative signs in newsroom and political discourses in three stages: the interpretation of the cultural connotations, newsroom and political discourses with reference to the issues of journalistic ethics and institutional authority, and the decoding of three overarching mythological themes: the myth of “objective” journalism, the myth of “political chaos” and the myth of “audience empowerment.
