Russia's Revisionist Grand Strategy, Putin’s Grand Strategy in the Contemporary Era

Abstract

Mikhail Gorbachev’s abortive quest to revive Soviets’ crumbling economy through Glasnost coupled with Perestroika led him to relinquish power to pave the way for Duma (the Soviet Parliament) to vote for dissolution of the Union on 26th December 1991. This is how, the first (Communist) regime in the history ceased to exist which, in fact, was installed by the Capitalist west in 1917 aimed at replacing the Tsarist rule which, at that time, was engaged in the World War I. Fifteen Soviet Republics, majority of which were already debt trapped by the American banking systems and their contemporaries in Europe, chose to be “independent”. This is how, the US led west dragged the Russian bear out of its “hibernation”. However, hectic efforts to encircle Russia by the west since 1991, have been futile. Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin has convincingly proved to be a dauntlessly repulsive global power to the US and its allies while exceptionally resilient in shaping a “Multipolar Order” at the sheer cost of western hegemony. In the wake of the prevalent global scenario in 2000s, an earnest effort has been undertaken to explore “Russia’s Geopolitically Re-inventing Ambitions” with distinct emphasis on the contemporary geo-strategic environment.
