This study explores the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) potential to stabilize South Asia, focusing on its role in fostering cooperation between India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. While much of the existing research on the SCO centres on security issues, particularly counterterrorism efforts, this research broadens the scope to examine the organization’s contributions to economic integration, regional connectivity, and energy security in South Asia. The study investigates how the SCO can facilitate improved bilateral relations between India and Pakistan, especially in areas like trade, energy, and counterterrorism cooperation. It also explores the SCO's influence in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan, a country that significantly impacts the security dynamics of the region. Additionally, the research highlights the SCO’s potential to enhance regional connectivity through infrastructure development, such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and new transit routes, which can boost economic cooperation and trade between South Asian and Central Asian countries. Through qualitative methods, including expert interviews and analysis of secondary sources, this study provides insights into how the SCO can be leveraged for long-term stability and prosperity in South Asia, contributing to a more interconnected and cooperative regional environment.
