Abstract

Islam is a religion of mercy, particularly towards the weak and the oppressed. In pre-Islamic Arabian society, women were among the most marginalized, and Islam granted them rights that were revolutionary for that time. Both the Qur'an and the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explicitly safeguard the rights of women, acknowledging their dignity, autonomy, and social value. This paper aims to explore the comprehensive rights Islam conferred upon women over fourteen centuries ago and how these rights transformed a deeply ignorant and patriarchal society. Despite the progressive nature of these teachings, many women in contemporary Muslim societies remain deprived of them. This research critically examines the underlying reasons for this disparity, including patriarchal structures, lack of education and awareness, misinterpretation of religious texts, and the fusion of cultural practices with religious doctrine. Through a comparative analysis of scriptural injunctions and societal practices, the research emphasizes the need for reformation grounded in authentic Islamic principles to ensure justice and equity for women in the Muslim world.
