Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming modern societies, including the legal sector, by improving decision-making, efficiency, and access to information. However, current legal and policy debates mainly focus on the risks and harms of AI, while giving limited attention to its potential benefits and positive uses. This article argues that a balanced regulatory approach is necessary to effectively govern AI technologies. It critically examines major international legal frameworks, including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report, the 2022 AI Bill of Rights, the Algorithmic Accountability Act, the Data Privacy and Protection Act, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the draft EU AI Act. The study highlights that excessive focus on privacy and human control may limit innovation and the development of accurate and unbiased AI systems. It proposes a comparative cost-benefit approach that supports both accountability and technological advancement. Furthermore, the article discusses the growing role of AI in legal education and legal services in Pakistan, where law schools and organizations are increasingly promoting AI awareness, research, and practical applications in the legal profession.
